It's Working Now!

Just realized that our "We've Bin Busy" video wasn't working yesterday.
I think the problem is fixed.
Sorry about that!

Bin the 2nd

As if harvest season isn't busy enough we decided to put up 2 huge grain bins this season!
We were hoping to put them up when it wasn't so busy, and thinking harvest would be a little later this year because of the later start we had in seeding we concentrated on other important projects...well, as always, farming is full of surprises! Harvest came like a whirlwind and so....we had to juggle busy times with BUSIER TIMES!!!!

So when we were able to break from harvest, we worked like silly to put up  bins!
The first bin I have no pictures or video from. I realized how sad that was and so for the second bin I made sure I got some good footage! I had to sneak away, and it didn't take long before I was being called back, but at least I was able to get some memories on tape! For the parts that are missing...sorry, but I just couldn't sneak away!

And just because I like to share everything (well almost :) with my blog readers, here is a shorter version of the footage I took (Megan was kind enough to put this together the way I wanted it...thanks Meg!)

Enjoy! And if I left anything out that you are curious about, please ask! I don't always think to explain things because.....well, they are just normal to me :)

Divided

I came across this trailer via Pink Slippers blog.
I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to having a few minutes to watch the whole thing.
The statistics of young people leaving the Church today is nothing to ignore!
It's time for the Church to rethink why this is happening!
Maybe, just maybe things need to change?

Popcorn

Jaden is just like his mama!
He looks forward the same thing as me every evening.....POPCORN!!!
As soon as he hears the popcorn popping he drops whatever he is doing, runs to the popcorn maker and makes sure he gets a few kernels!!
Here is a cute video Meg put together of how he says popcorn....ENJOY!

He's Getting Big!

Here is our little man Jaden.
He is talking and smiling at us now.
Jen is good at getting him to do this.
Here's a video to prove it!

Babies and Lemons

We came across this video today.
It reminded me of Nathan when he was little.

He loved lemons.
If fact when we would go to a restaurant
he would take a bite of lemon and then a bite of pickle.
And he barely pulled a face :)
Anyway...this made me smile

Gotta love these sweet baby faces.

Silly Sally

On the Pauls' farm we have very talented animals indeed! Here is our milk cow, Sally. How talented is that :)
This is really what she does. We didn't even speed it up!

A Precious Moment On The Farm

I know we have posted a lot about calving season already, but you must understand that right now it consumes much of our days :) Calving season always makes life on the farm much more busy, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! It is so fun and rewarding to see these cows give birth to their little babies and take care of them. There is just something special about new life and spring that makes your heart feel good! We are now up to 11 calves. Last year Jen, Meg and Kerri learned the ropes of calving and this year they have basically done all the calving work so far, except for the tagging and castrating. They are doing an excellent job and we are so proud of how responsible they have been. It's such a blessing to have good help around which frees Mark and I up to be able to concentrate on other things. Thanks girls, we love you! We have heard comments over the last little while that some of you would like to see a cow giving birth to a calf. Well, since you can't be here to see it, we thought we would give you the next best thing....a video! So if you don't like to see cows giving birth, THEN DON'T WATCH THIS VIDEO :) But if you would like to....ENJOY! This is our cow "Calfy" (well she was a calf when we named her this:) She is part Holstein. We have milked her on and off over the last few years before we got our Jersey cows. She is a sweet and stubborn cow all in one! The video that you will see was taken in a span of about 5 hours. About 3 hours from her water breaking until she gave birth to this little sweet heifer calf. And within about 2 hours from birth she was up and drinking from Mama (with a little help from Jen.) You will see Kerri pulling the calf out, we will do this sometimes if the birth has been long or the calf's head has been out for awhile. This was an easy pull, so she probably would have been fine on her own. But when you are standing there watching, it's hard not to help her out :) And if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in a comment and we will try our best to answer them. Now for the video!

AJ and Grammy Cuddle Time

Yesterday I was able to have some quality cuddle time with Andrew at the hospital.

He is a bundle of love and is growing so big! It's weird how your perspective changes. If he had been born full term at this size we would have though he was so little.....but compared to what he was....he is now BIG!

As you can see in the video below, he is is changing quickly and is looking all around. That morning the nurse said he had stayed awake from 8:30 to 11:30 just looking at his mobile.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers. We see improvement in him almost daily. Still no word of when he might be able to come home.....but until then we will enjoy our hospital cuddles :)

To view the video click on the 'tiny' square in the bottom left hand corner and it will bring you to a new page to the video.

It Begins In The High Chair

Believe it or not a lot of training can be done in the high chair.
Lessons of self control abound here.

In our family, we like to use high chair time as a training time.
Here are some examples:
We don't put plastic under the baby's chair to catch the food they throw off...instead we teach them not to through their food on the floor.
We don't let them whine and  cry for their food.....instead we teach them simple signs like 'please' 'more' 'all done'
And with Josiah we have taken it a step further and chosen not to keep his bowl far away from him....but instead keep it in front of him, right on his tray and train him not to touch it.

Every time we have another baby we are again amazed at how young they understand things and how little we give them credit for. We also realize how much easier it is to curb bad habits while they are young. Catch it now and you will have less issues to deal with later.
Take self-control for example. How many times in life do you need self-control? And how much better is it to learn it earlier on in life. Babies can and will learn self-control.
Of course parenting is a process and you will not have a perfect baby overnight, and there will be issues that you will feel like you deal with over and over again. But the earlier you start to train the easier it will be later on. We know, we have experienced it, we have done it both ways, and found that one way works better than the other.

But everytime, I struggle with the 'how much does he really understand' conflict. And when I test the waters I realize it's always way more than I give them credit for.

Take the game pat-a-cake-pat-a-cake. Have you ever done that with your child? I think I have with all of ours and it takes no time at all for them to repeat the actions....even as early as 6 months...so why then do I think they are not capable of learning sign language? Is there a difference?
I think not!

So today look at your child in a different light. Figure out how much they really can understand and start your training there. And as your child grows...you will be glad you did!

Here is a glimpse of what Josiah does when he really wants to do something but knows that he shouldn't.
Sometimes he will crawl along the floor and see something he shouldn't have and shakes his head and crawls on. Of course he is still in training.....so he doesn't always resist the temptation.
But this morning he did well as you will see!

Spring ?!?!? Maybe NOT!

Here is a look at what we have been experiencing on and off today. I will let the video speak for itself. Oh, by the way I was informed by my wonderful teenage daughters (who love to give their mother a hard time :) that the word PARKA is foreign, in fact it's a Grama word (no offense to the Grama's I am sure!) and that I sounded so sad about the weather and the fact that our guys had to work in the cold that they were ready to get out the Kleenex's! So if you are the emotional type, you might want to run and get a hanky :) (oh..is that a Grama word too girls!?!?! But on a side note: I really do take my hats off to the wonderful guys who work so hard to keep this farm going (particularly my wonderful husband). I know it's not always a pleasant job, but you are a trooper. You are the greatest sweets :)

Needs Some Work?

Here are the boys attempting some Christmas carols. I think they need a little work on learning the words!?! You can hear Caleb right at the end. He is a very good singer but too shy to be on camera :)

Popping Wonder

We eat popcorn often, like almost every night. But it is always after the younger ones go to bed. Here's a video of Mikaya watching a popcorn maker "POP" for the first time:)

Mikaya Anne the Cute Little Ballerina

Mikaya doesn't use the jolly jumper anymore since she started walking. But when she did, she put on quite a show. Here's a couple of clips.
