I Wonder Why?

It's truly amazing I don't have more gray hairs :)

And this is just a few days after Zachary announced to me that he figured out why he wasn't growing very fast. According to his theory, he hurts himself so much that his body concentrates on healing instead of growing! I wonder why he hurts himself!?!?!

Thanks Zach for fixing my clothes line. But next time you have to reach so high....maybe you could use something a little safer....like a LADDER?????

Hatching

Since we are incubating chicken eggs we decided to do a lapbook about chickens.
We just finished it up yesterday.

The boys had such a great time that they asked to do another lapbook, but this time about sharks.
When Jesse saw me getting the material together for the shark lapbook he looked at me with concern in his big brown eyes and said,
"Mom, we're not going to try to hatch sharks are we?!?!?"

I just don't think they'd fit in the incubator :)

LIFE ON THE FUNNY FARM

Around here you never know what you're going to find out in the barn.
Today Zachary went out to do his daily job of picking the eggs.
We have 2 hens running loose outside the chicken pen.
They like to lay eggs randomly around the barn, so Zachary was trying to find them.
Then he found one of the hens, herself, in chicken (well it's not in person :).
But when he went to move her, to see if there were eggs under her, she started pecking at him.
Because this is what hens tend to do when they are hiding eggs under them,
Zachary was sure there was something under her worth getting.
So he persisted.
And when he moved her off her nest, he found out he was right!
But rather than finding an egg  or two like he had expected...he found A BABY KITTEN!!!
This kitten belonged to a cat that had a batch of kittens a few weeks ago.
I guess this hen figured she would like to be a mama too!!!!
And the kitten, who was all snuggly and warm under there, didn't seem to mind it at all.
I'm not sure what the chicken would have done when the kitten decided it was hungry?!?!?!

Anyway, that's life on our funny farm!!!!

Jump In A Cup

We were talking about fire one day and how it needs oxygen or it will extinguish. To demonstrate, I lit a candle and then put a cup over top. Within a couple of seconds the flame went out. When I asked the boys why the flame went out they said it was because it ran out of oxygen. Then Jen said, "That's why you don't run if you are on fire, because it would fan the flame." To which one of our more brilliant and slightly cheeky sons replied, "So if your on fire you should put yourself in a cup?"

Silly Sally

On the Pauls' farm we have very talented animals indeed! Here is our milk cow, Sally. How talented is that :)
This is really what she does. We didn't even speed it up!
(if the video doesn't load, try refreshing the page)

Chicky Sticken, Sticky Chicken

When I first wrote this post I challenged you to say Chicky Sticken 5 times. What I meant to say was Chicky Sticken, Sticky Chicken 5 times.
Brookie loves her Daddy!
They do lots of crazy things together.....mostly at the dinner table.
They laugh lots, they talk silly, they come up with crazy rhymes, they make funny faces.....
She follows him like a shadow when he is working on the yard.
She will spend hours on a tractor just to be around him.
But lately Brookie and Daddy have had a dilemma.
Daddy (the master of nick names) and for awhile has called her 'Beautiful Brookie'
Then just recently (probably somewhat to do with the 'interesting hair-dos' she sports throughout the day, depending on the weather :), he has called her 'Curly Sue'.
Brookie
But for some reason Brookie has protested to being called 'Curly Sue', instead she wanted to steal her little sister's nick name...Fluffy?!?!?
and Daddy jokingly argued back and forth over this issue for weeks (you guessed it, mostly at the dinner table)
Finally one day, tired of the arguing (hee, hee) Daddy decided that he would give this little girl a choice of two nick names. This should settle it once and for all.
So at the table one day Daddy came up with the ultimatum.....it's either 'Curly Sue' or.......'Sticky Chicken'!!!! But...... Brookie still insisted on being called her little sister's name..... 'Fluffy'.
Well Daddy then decided he would choose between the two names on his own.........and so the nickname was......You guessed it.....Sticky Chicken :)
After being called this a few days, Brookie said to her Daddy one day....'You can call me Curly Sue'!!!! And he does (sometimes :)....and they laugh....and they still have fun at the dinner table.
Now little sister seeing all the fun wanted to join in and when Daddy called her 'Fluffy' she said, "No, I'm Chicky Sticken"!
Well then Daddy got an idea that everyone should try to say Chicky Sticken, Sticky Chicken
5 times...fast. And guess what...no one could do it....maybe once or twice....but definitely not 5 and definitely not quickly!!!!
So here's a Pauls' challenge for you. Can you say Chicky Sticken, Sticky Chicken 5 times in a row really fast? If you can....we will put you down in our books of 'most talented one'!!!!
There.....now you know a bit of what can go on around our dinner table :)

Here is a joke we heard the other day.
Thought it was too funny not to share :)

3 sons left home, went out on their own and prospered. Getting back together they discussed gifts they were able to give their elderly mother.

The first said, "I built a big house for our mother." The second said, "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver." The third smiled and said, "Ha, I got you both beat. Remember how mother loved to read the Bible? And you know that she can't see very well? Well, I sent her an amazing parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took Church elders 14 years to teach him. Mom just has to name the chapter and verse and the parrot will recite it."

Soon thereafter, mom sent out her letters of thanks: "Jim," she wrote one son, "The house you built is so big. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house." "David," she wrote to another, "I am too old to travel and stay at

home most of the time, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!"

"Dearest Gerald," she wrote to her third son, "You have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken was absolutley delicious..."

We Teach Them Young!

Around here we like to start homeschooling them at a young age.
Take Little Joey for instance.
Yesterday he did a couple of science experiments and learned about the density of certain objects.
He learned that a plastic spoon and an ear plug float in a fish tank....
(and that water also causes the ear plugs to expand so big there is no way they will fit in mom's ears!)
While a remote control sinks in the toilet (and also causes them to cease working)
YEP! we teach 'em young!

Pregnant Toes

Here is what you get when you combine a new video camera with:

(a) A pregnant mama on an easy chair looking at her pregnant toes

(b) A daughter who like to "dress up" a really uninteresting video

(c) A mother and daughter who laugh at really corny things!

There, now you know the real me :)

Just Taking Notes

The other day while Jennifer was cutting Kerri's hair I looked at Mikaya and said, "Mikaya, you better take notes so that when you are older you will know how to cut hair."
She immediately went to get her pen and paper and did this :)

Hitting Back? by Jen

The other day Brooke and Mikaya had a little scuffle in which Mikaya hit Brooke and Brooke proceeded to hit Mikaya back.

Me being the big sister and seeing the whole thing decided to step in. I said "Brooke! That wasn't very kind to hit her back!" I was about to passionately (maybe a little bit to passionately) launch into a speech about how since she is the bigger sister she should be the good example when Brooke blurted out (in a loud whiny tone) "I didn't hit her back.... I hit her FRONT!"

Ummmm........I didn't know what to say!

Memories Monday

Here are some cute story's and pictures about Kerri.... Enjoy!
Journaling from
Sept. 30 1999.....
Something Cute! Today Kerri closed the bathroom door and it banged quite loud. She said "Ooh, that made my ears jump!!"
April 21st 2000......
A few days ago Kerri poked Mommy in the tummy. Then she said, "Oh, did I poke the babies eyes!" Kerri, Sweet Kerri!
May 2001....
Mom wrote the scripture verse "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer" on our rock. After Kerri was telling someone what the verse was that mom wrote on the rock. She said "The Lord is my shepherd Ishall not rock!" (a little misinterpretation)
Aug 10th, 2002...
A few days after Jennifer's birthday, Dad and Mom took her out for supper and a movie. Later when she was explaining to her siblings about how it was so dark in the movie theatre and it seemed like it should be dark outside but it wasn't. Kerri always a thinker said, "Did they have lights that made it dark?" Thanks again for the laugh Kerri!
