Do your kids ever say to you "I'm Bored"? OR "There's Nothing to Do"?
Our kids have learned to think very carefully before they say these words.
Why? Because if they say this, we put them to work.
Anyone who says they are bored need something to do, right?
And I always have 'something' for that bored person to do :)

When my children tell me "I'm bored" I say, "Oh, then I will give you something to do" I then proceed to find a job for them. It might be washing the floor, dusting, cleaning a toilet....

We live in a society where boredom is rampant.
People get bored with:
Their jobs
Their vehicles
Their spouses
Their physical features
Their homes
Their life.....
When we cater to our children's claims of being bored we train them that it's okay to be discontent. But when we read God's Word we see the value of being content in all circumstances.
Here's what the Bible says about contentment.
Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Phil 4:11-12
Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 1 Timothy 6:6
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Hebrew 13:5
Remember, the way you train today will shape your child into the person he/she will be in the future. Do you want them to be bored/discontented in life? Then don't train them to be bored/ discontented now.

Our parents always put us to work when we would say we were bored...we learned our lesson fast, just find something to do.

Great post, Rosalie! We haven't gotten to the "I'm bored" stage yet, but I'll keep your advice in mind for when we do. :)
It's the same around here! I even did this with a rather narcissistic young man who was "trapped" at our house for a day. He complained of boredom, so I gave him some Windex and a rag and told him to wash my windows. He was incredulous! But I did get my windows washed :)
